Artists: Open Group (Yuriy Biley, Pavlo Kovach, Anton Varga)
“Repeat after Me II” is an audiovisual installation by Ukrainian collective Open Group, delving into the interaction between individuals and their environments through immersive experiences.
With a focus on performativity and audience participation, their work explores the impact of war, particularly amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine since 2014.
Through a blend of video and karaoke, the installation presents civilian refugees recounting their experiences with the sounds of warfare, inviting viewers to echo their stories.
Spanning from 2022 to 2024, the comparison of these narratives illustrates the enduring nature of memory and technological evolution. Set in both Ukrainian refugee camps and safe locations abroad, the installation highlights the ubiquity of war’s trauma. Through interactive elements, viewers can engage with the witnesses’ stories, emphasizing the collective nature of war’s impact. The exhibition is a call to reflection on the enduring legacy of conflict and the urgent need for societal introspection in the face of militarization.
